Sherwood, Arkansas – There will soon be a Sherwood location for a global grocery chain that is expanding its stores throughout Arkansas.

According to city officials, Aldi will be arriving. Following the publishing of the municipal planning commission’s agenda for its meeting on November 12 and the display of the final Aldi plan, the news was made on Wednesday.

According to the announcement, Aldi executives were only considering a single location and piece of land at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Highway 107 that satisfied their needs, such as being near a large business. Officials stated that after speaking with the property owner in February, Mayor Mary Jo Heye-Townsell spent months working with all parties to reach a final arrangement.

The property is outside of Old Gray Township and in Sherwood’s Ward 1, south of Maryland Avenue, according to city officials. They also mentioned that they are negotiating with another grocery store for a Ward 4 location in Old Gray Township; however, the retailer’s choice is contingent upon the outcome of the city’s forthcoming vote on whether or not to permit the sale of alcoholic beverages in Old Gray Township.

In January, the chain’s first location in Arkansas opened its doors in Conway. Since then, it has opened two more stores in Cabot and Little Rock, in central Arkansas, with more locations planned all throughout the state.

German brothers Theo and Karl Albrecht took over their mother’s Essen store and started Aldi in 1946. The network has more than 10,000 locations across 20 nations. Aldi operates around 2,000 stores throughout 36 states in the United States, with 1,000 of those opening during the last ten years.
