Travelers in Arkansas pay tribute to and remember first responders who died in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 as well as those who are still fighting for security and freedom
North Little Rock, Arkansas – The Arkansas Travelers honored Operation: Military Appreciation Day at Dickey-Stephens Park as they concluded their regular season and got ready for the postseason.
As the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 approaches this coming Wednesday, part of the day was also dedicated to honoring the memory of the first responders who lost their lives on that day.
“To never forget, always in our hearts, and God bless,” Lieutenant Brandon Bennett of the North Little Rock Police Department stated.
Many individuals remember this period of time, and many more will never forget it. At Dickey-Stephens Park on Sunday, the community came together to express gratitude to first responders and our armed forces.
The Travelers held a 9/11 Appreciation Ceremony on the field prior to the game, inviting first responders and members of the armed forces.
Along with playing activities with kids on the field, first responders and members of the armed forces parked their cars in front of the stadium so that kids and community members could see inside and take pictures.
Firefighter Tanner Ramsey of North Little Rock remarked, “We all remember where we were; it’s really shaped who we are and the reasons a lot of us became firemen, we saw those people for the first time as heroes.”
Ramsey said it as an honor that the Travelers were using their final home game of the regular season to shed awareness on a day that many people regard as being extremely important.
U.S. Army Daniel Deviney stated, “I’ve always gone to the Traveler’s game growing up, and seeing them support in remembrance of the 9/11 itself is important.”
As the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 draws near, every home run at Dickey-Stephen Park honors the lives lost on that day, which is observed with the American flag flying high.
Sports lovers pay tribute to the “old ball game” in the best way they can.
“What better way to do it than with baseball, America’s favorite pastime,” Bennett remarked.
As the club prepares for the playoffs, the Travelers dedicated their 6-5 victory over Corpus Christi to the first responders present.
