For its second year, a small community farmers market will open
Dalton, Arkansas – For the past few years, a community in Randolph County has been getting together in the spring, summer, and fall at a newly discovered hotspot in the town.
“This is our second year with this building behind me. We have sold to the public for four years,” The Knoll Owner Susan Watson explained.
“The Knoll” in Dalton in the northern part of the county started as a roadside produce stand, but slowly has grown into a community farmers market.
“The last two years, we have around 25 vendors that sell with us from Lawrence and Randolph County,” Watson stated.
The market is special in that it is open twenty-four hours a day.
“We operate the whole business on the honor system, so people can shop at their convenience,” Watson said.
Watson believes that the honor system is just another feature that sets The Knoll apart.
“It’s something that you don’t always see where our money bags are sitting out there. People put their money in and get their change out, and people say they can’t believe it works,” Watson stated.
There is a rich history in the area where The Knoll currently stands.
“We are actually in one of the oldest settled areas in Arkansas,” Area Historian Cindy Tony Robinett explained.
Where others congregated many years ago, people now congregate.
“This was a little community park in the early to mid-20th century. Just up the way was a one-room school,” Robinett added.
On Tuesday, April 2, The Knoll will formally open for the season. It will be accessible Monday through Saturday for the entire day.
