Tragic double shooting in Pine Bluff over the weekend left two dead

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – Law enforcement officers were dispatched at 1404 Avondale Drive in Pine Bluff on Sunday at approximately 7 p.m. in response to a shooting report.

Upon reaching the scene, Pine Bluff Police Department officers found a black female, later identified as 28-year-old Takyrra Scott, slumped over in the driver’s seat of a gray passenger car parked at 1402 Avondale Drive. Scott had sustained gunshot wounds to her head and hand. Despite immediate action, she was pronounced dead upon reaching JRMC due to the severity of her injuries.

In close proximity, the officers found another victim, a black male named Deandre Thomas, 25. Shockingly, Thomas was lying on the ground, a handgun firmly gripped in his hand, finger still pressing the trigger. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and, similar to Scott, succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to JRMC.

The officers at the site made commendable efforts to administer life-saving measures to both victims until the arrival of firefighters and paramedics.

During their investigation, a crucial witness came forward. The witness, who was in her vehicle near 1402 Avondale Drive at the time of the incident, recounted the chilling sequence of events. She recalled seeing Thomas hastily approach Scott’s car and enter it while Scott was still seated inside. Moments later, the deafening sound of gunshots echoed. As Thomas emerged from the vehicle, he seemed to target the witness, causing her to reverse her car in panic. As Thomas menacingly approached her, gun aimed, he suddenly halted a few houses away from Scott’s residence and tragically shot himself in the head.

In a significant revelation, the witness mentioned that Scott and Thomas had been romantically involved in the past, shedding some light on the possible dynamics between the two.

The authorities are asking for public assistance. They urge anyone with further information or details about the incident to come forward. Key contact points include the detective office tip line at 870-730-2106 or directly reaching out to Detective Jason Boykins at 870-730-2090.
